Cavitation Erosion Characteristics for Different Metal Surface and Influencing Factors in Water Flowing System

The impact of cavitation erosion behavior on different metals in a water flowing system was investigated experimentally. A built and transparent observation window is designed to capture the flow. Erosion tests were carried out red copper, brass, pure aluminum, an aluminum alloy. behaviors are presented by weight loss rate, related changes topography metal surface also discussed. variation metallic specimens with increasing time could be divided into three stages: rising stage, stable attenuation stage. material had lowest yield strength, suffered most severe while brass highest strength good mechanical properties, which least erosion. Furthermore, roughness one important factors affecting rate. milling higher slightly lower than that grinding. high increased pressure along flow path suppressed strength. This work provides experimental reference for anti-cavitation ability improvement materials promotes understanding mechanism.
